Enrollment Verification

Starting in the 2021-2022 school year, Post-9/11 GI Bill® students who receive Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) and/or kicker payments are required to verify their enrollment to proceed receiving their payments. Read below to larn more nigh the enrollment verification requirement and verification methods.

What is enrollment verification?

Enrollment verification is a new requirement for Post-9/11 GI Bill students to verify that they accept remained enrolled in the same courses or training every month. Students who receive MHA/kicker payments will accept their payments withheld if they fail to verify or report that they are no longer enrolled in their courses or training. To streamline the procedure, VA is providing the pick to verify enrollment easily and securely via text message. Read more below.

This requirement is only for Post-9/xi GI Bill and does not bear on other benefit programs, such as the Montgomery GI Neb (MGIB), Veteran Employment Through Technology Education Courses (VET TEC), Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Aid (DEA), Veterans Rapid Retraining Assist Program (VRRAP),or the Edith Nourse Rogers Stalk Scholarship.  This requirement likewise does not currently apply to GI Bill students in on-the-job, apprenticeship, flying, or correspondence training.

If you lot are an MGIB pupil, this new requirement does not represent a change for yous, as MGIB students are already required to verify enrollment.

When does enrollment verification start?

Currently, the monthly verification requirement is merely being applied to Post-9/11 GI Bill students who also receive MHA/kicker payments. It will get effective in phases:

     Students attending Not-Higher Degree (NCD) facilities, for terms starting on or afterwards August 1, 2021.

     Students attendingInstitution of Higher Learning (IHL) facilities, for terms starting on orlater Dec
     17, 2021.

For all other students, including students at NCD and IHL facilities who do not receive MHA/kicker payments, you lot will be provided with more information before the enrollment verification requirement applies to you.

NOTE: If you are taking multiple classes and whatsoever of them starting time subsequently the effective engagement of this requirement, you will be required to verify enrollment fifty-fifty if your other classes started earlier.

NCD vs. IHL:  How do you know which type of facility you attend?  IHL Facilities Have:  1.  Associates/Bachelors/Masters/PhD degree programs  2.  Traditional 2 to 4 year schools.  All other facilities are NCD facilities.  This excludes on-the-job and apprenticeship training. How do I verify enrollment?

Via Text Bulletin:

  • Opt in: Students with a U.S. mobile phone number can use text letters as a simple, quick option for verifying monthly enrollment. As your enrollment approaches, you will receive the following opt-in text: "Mail service-ix/11 GI Nib housing and kicker payments now require monthly enrollment verification. Would you like to submit yours via text? Delight reply YES or NO." Reply "Yep" to opt in. The text message link will expire 14 days after receipt, then please respond within that fourth dimension frame.
  • Verify: Afterwards opting in, yous can verify your enrollment every month just by responding to the following text bulletin from VA: "Did you remain enrolled in your courses in MONTH YEAR as certified? Please reply Yeah or NO. If you lot have dropped all your courses, you must respond NO." Reply "YES" to verify enrollment for the previous month.  If you lot don't respond within vi days, the chat will expire and you lot will need to telephone call the Pedagogy Call Center (ECC) at 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551) domestically or 001-918-781-5678 internationally to verify your enrollment.
  • NOTE:  When responding to opt-in or verification texts, it may have upwards to a twenty-four hour period to receive a confirmation text in response.  Be assured that your response has been received.

Enrollment verification via text bulletin is safe and secure. VA will never enquire for your personal information, such as social security number or banking company business relationship data, via text.  VA strongly recommends text message verifications for verifying your renrollment.

Via Email:

  • If you opt out of text letters, tin't verify by text, or practice non take a US mobile phone number, y'all volition be automatically enrolled in e-mail verification at the email address on file with VA. NOTE: NCD students who previously opted out of text message verification will automatically be enrolled into email verification after January xv, 2022.
  • After being opted into email verification, you will receive an email with the subject line, "Confirmation: You lot've been enrolled into VA's email verification!"
  • On the concluding day of each month, you volition receive an email with the subject line, "Action Required: Verify Your Monthly Enrollment". Select "Yes, my enrollment is the same" to verify your enrollment. After selecting your response, you will exist taken to a confirmation page thanking you lot for verifying your monthly enrollment.
  • If yous don't select a response within 14 days, the links in your email will expire and you will need to call the ECC to verify your enrollment.
  • If your enrollment status has inverse, select "No, my enrollment has changed." Please contact your SCO to ensure your enrollment record with VA has been adjusted.

If y'all are unable to verify via text or email, you will demand to contact the ECC at 1-888-GIBILL-i (1-888-442-4551) and inquire a representative to verify your enrollment. Note: ECC expect times may exist high due to the number of students verifying enrollment each month. If you're non sure if VA has your telephone number and/or e-mail on file, y'all can also contact the ECC to update your contact information and ensure you tin can verify via text or email.

What happens if I fail to verify my enrollment?

If you fail to verify enrollment for two consecutive months, your MHA/kicker payments volition be placed on hold.  In order to accept your payments released, you lot will need to call the ECC to verify your enrollment. When you call the ECC to release your payments, you may also enroll in text message verification at that time.

Why am I being required to verify my enrollment?

By regularly verifying your enrollment, you lot protect your GI Beak entitlement by preventing charges for classes or grooming you did not attend.
